School Captains are the most significant student leaders in the school as they represent the student body and are the public face of Nhulunbuy Primary School. They are ambassadors for the school and demonstrate an exceptional attendance and behaviour record; show commitment to the school through academic and cultural involvement; demonstrate leadership capacity and have a vision for their position at NPS. They are approachable, reliable, responsible and trustworthy and are positive role models for all students.

The position of School Captain is a great honor and responsibility. As part of the role, School captains are required to host fortnightly assemblies, write newsletter articles, represent NPS at special events, participate in the school improvement process and greet and acknowledge special guests. School Captains are also active members of the Student Representative Council, meeting each fortnight to advocate student voice.
