This can range from one off sessions for sports such as cricket, golf, netball, rugby, AFL, and baseball to multiple coaching sessions for tennis delivered by the Tennis Australia Development Officer based in Nhulunbuy. Swimming lessons are also offered during Term 1 of each year for all students from Transition to Year 6.

SCHOOL SPORT NT

Students aged 10 and older also have the opportunity to participate in the School Sport NT program.

This program offers students the opportunity to participate in regional teams (East Arnhem region) that compete against other teams from the following regions; Darwin, Central, Barkley, Big Rivers, Top End. Intra-Territory 12 years and under championships take place annually in the following sports: Rugby League, Netball, Basketball, Soccer, AFL, Cricket, Touch football and Track and Field.

These championships are help across Northern Territory in Darwin or regional centres. Students participating in these championships then have the opportunity to become selected in Northern Territory teams that then go on to participate in the National School Sport Australia Championships for those various sports.

SPORTS CARNIVALS

Nhulunbuy Primary School hosts three annual sport carnivals including a Swimming Carnival, an Athletics Carnival and a Cross Country Carnival. All carnivals provide students from Transition to Year 6 the opportunity to compete in a range of events and activities, scoring individual championship trophies as well as sports house points for the overall house championship shields.

Our school is also involved in a range of sports gala days with other schools in our area. We have participated in interschool activities including AFL, netball, rugby league tag, touch football, soccer and Olympic day.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH LOCAL ENTITIES

We have a very strong relationship with other schools and program providers in our region often meeting with, coordinating sports gala days and activities and sharing sports equipment, resources and ideas for successful events. We also liase closely with the Nhulunbuy Coorporation for school events and fundraisers including NAIDOC Week, Walk Safely to School Day and our whole School swimming program at the local aquatic centre.
